In a half year project a group of students at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (University of applied science in Amsterdam) created a fall detector in Java. Since falls are more likely to occur in bad visibility or darkness the project uses monochrome input so that the method can be used with infrared camera’s. The method is based on quick changes in the aspect ratio in the bounding box of a moving region.
