The “smart” apartment is equipped with several sensors, that are used to track the human gait & activity, and particularly detect falls. Here, Nicolas Beaufort (engineer working on this platform) simulates a sudden fall on the floor. The fall detection is made visible by the lights on the floor tile. The fall detection systems activates a low-cost mobile assistive robot: the robot leaves its docking station, navigates autonomously through the room, and reaches the human lying on the floor. At this point, remote communication with the human can be triggered.
The research is supported by the project Satelor.
