In episode 499 of The Whole View podcast, Stacy and Dr. Sarah talk about determinants of health, 25% of which is influenced by the combination of biology (genetics and epigenetics) and diet and lifestyle, and 75% of which is influenced by social determinants of health. Dr. Sarah discusses the heritability of epigenetics and how stressors (trauma, famine, pollutants, smoking, etc.) can cause health problems in children and grandchildren (down both the maternal and paternal line). And, Stacy and Dr. Sarah discuss the role that racism plays in social determinants of health, and encourage their listeners to learn more, donate and advocate.
